Guest Edited by William Sanchez, MD
Created in 2010, the AASLD Emerging Liver Scholars Resident Program promotes the study of hepatology among residents who have the potential for a career in academic medicine and who haven’t yet determined their long-term career goals. This program is targeted toward medical, surgical, and pediatric residents and their Mentors to attend The Liver Meeting® each year and participate in other AASLD activities throughout their training. The primary audience for the Emerging Liver Scholars Resident Program would be residents interested in choosing adult or pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, hepatopathology, surgery, or GI radiation with an emphasis on hepatobiliary imaging as their career focus. Through exposure to all The Liver Meetinghas to offer and other AASLD training, educational, and leadership opportunities, our goal of having the resident choose hepatology or transplant hepatology for a career can be met.

Since the program first started in 2012, over 100 Residents have been chosen to participate in the program.

For more information about the Emerging Liver Scholar Program, visit http://www.aasld.org/ELSapplyApplications for the 2016 Class will be accepted beginning February 1, 2016.
